It is a little more complicated, but also quite doable at home. Due to small zigzag bends, strands overlap each other with “gaps”, which creates a basal volume, or even full volume, if you make a corrugation for the entire length. I have a corrugation with Aliexpress, it copes with the task:
This method is similar to the previous version:
- Separate the area in which I will do the basal volume, pinned up.
- Starting from the bottom, I separate the thin layers of hair with horizontal partings and crimp them with the help of special forceps at the roots. From the roots in this case is indented about 1 cm, so as not to damage them and burn the skin. The length of the corrugation can be any - from a few centimeters to the entire length. But the more corrugated it is, the more noticeable it will be. For basal volume 5-7 cm is enough.
- I corrugate all the layers of the selected zone, except the last one, and also, as with the card, I put the last layer over it to hide the previous ones.
Who is shirring: to all who would not fit the pile. That is, it will be nice to look at sparse hair, even if it will be visible. Dry greasy hair a little and due to the thermosetting the basal volume will last longer. But the owners of dry hair should not get involved in the corrugation, so as not to spoil them completely.
Advantages of shirring:
- hair is not confused, they will be easy to comb
- does not require hair styling
- even if the wind suddenly blows, and from under the smooth layer of hair “looks” corrugated, it will look much nicer than a matted koltun hair.
disadvantages:
- the corrugation, like the iron with the curling iron, is harmful to the hair due to the high temperature
- non-moisture resistant effect. In the rain, hair straighten
Board: In order not to spoil the hair, do the shirring after washing your head on thoroughly dried hair, and do not repeat it until the next wash. Even if during this time the basal volume decreases slightly, it is better to lift the strands and sprinkle with varnish at the roots.
Method 3 - Hair Powder
Means for styling, which appeared relatively recently. It is a fine white powder and in use is very similar to ... baby powder!
Powder for basal volume is applied to the roots and rubbed into the hair, after which they become tough and literally "stand by the stake." This tool (professional line) is often used in the creation of festive and wedding hairstyles. Combined with shirring and a pile, this is what happens:

Method 4 — Bust-Up Procedure
This is a salon procedure based on a perm. The scheme of action is the same as for corrugation, only the effect persists for a long time - until it grows.
How is done (I did not dare, so the photo is someone else's):
On the selected zone, a basal chemical or a boiling tank for very thin bobbins is made. The length of the curled section of hair is about 5 cm. The upper layer of the hair remains without curling, and underneath it is not visible kucheryashek.
Who is suitable Boost Up: to owners of fat roots. This procedure will dry them. In general, hair for Bust-Up, as well as for chemistry, should be healthy, preferably not bleached and not over-dried.
Advantages of Boost Up:
- long-term effect that will last for 4-5 months. It is recommended to repeat the procedure every six months.
disadvantages:
- harmful to hair. This is the same perm, especially on the small diameter of the bobbin, which makes the creases on the curls more fragile. When repeating the procedure, the perm is partially layered on the previous one, which after several times can lead to breakage.
- Growing up, radical chemistry does not disappear anywhere. Curls will remain in the same place, only they will be more and more protected from the roots.
- Not cheap. As with any salon procedure, Boost Up is quite expensive.
Method 5 - weaving braids or winding at the roots
If the basal volume does not suit you because of the insecurity of these methods, you can try this method, which is absolutely harmless to the hair, but it takes quite a lot of time.
Make it better before bedtime:
- We select the zone for creating basal volume in the same way as in the previous methods.
- We divide the hair into small strands
- We braid each strand at the roots into a short braid (4-5 cm) or we wind it into a thin bobbin.
It turns out the same effect as in the previous methods.
Who it fits: those who have a lot of time and patience. To tangle so many small, even short braids is a painstaking business, and personally I have never been able to finish it. And sleeping on bobbins is very uncomfortable.
Advantages of weaving or twisting:
- completely harmless to hair
- good effect comparable to professional
Disadvantages:
- hard to do yourself
- takes a lot of time
- causes discomfort during sleep
- the effect is unstable, as there is no thermo-wound or chemistry
Method 6 - special inserts: rollers and pins
Now there is a mass of accessories with which you can make the basal volume at home. In stores they are cheap, and on the Internet (for example, on AliExpress) you can buy them for a penny.
They are used about the same:
- Horizontal parting from the temples to the nape of the head separates the top layer of hair and stabbed at the crown.
- Under this layer on the back of the head, we make a small bundle and tightly tie it with a rubber band.
- Insert the roller or hairpin above the beam so that the teeth fall behind the gum.
- Dissolving the top layer of hair on top of the roller and tying it again in the form of “malvinki
It turns out the root volume due to the insert.
Who are suitable inserts: all except owners of rare hair, in which these rollers will be visible. Nor will they suit lovers of loose hair, because without a “malvinka” they won't hold on, or they will be noticeable at the first gust of wind. But the horse tail, braid and any high hairstyle with a basal volume on the roller will look great
Virtues:
- quickly, simply, easily done at home
- harmless to hair
disadvantages:
- not suitable for loose hair, such rollers are worn only under the hair
- when you dissolve your hair and remove the roller, there is no trace of the basal volume
Method 7 - shampoos and masks for hair volume
Theoretically, the scheme of their action consists in wrapping each hair with a composition containing silicone, due to which the hair becomes thicker and more voluminous. But I never found a shampoo or a mask that would give a real, noticeable result. Therefore, I will not recommend it, since I consider this to be another deception of money from us, credulous consumers.
Such means can be used, as they say, to soothe the soul. But if you really do not have enough basal volume, then it is better to look for something else.
The only exception is dry shampoowhich dries and lifts hair at the roots. And although it was created not at all for the basal volume, but for emergency washing of the head, its effect is often much better than many professional tools:
